DOGMA AND CATALYST by Pamela Irving

These two paintings are inspired by Pamela’s travels to Pacific Islands. The gridded structure is reminiscent of bark tapa cloth used for decorative and ceremonial uses in many Island communities.

She has incorporated her faithful dog Larry and her Tom Cat character into the grids giving them a more contemporary feel. The limited palette and repetitive patterns are also influenced by tribal and primitive art.
