Lunch with David Booth at Pure South Dining

Possibly Tasmania’s all-time favourite cricketing son, David Boon was a pugnacious right-handed batsman who served his state and country with enormous distinction. He was not always the most stylish player, but for what he lacked in fluency he more than compensated with his ardour for occupying the crease and accumulating runs when they were most needed.

At the time of his retirement, Boon had scored 7422 Test runs at 43.65 (second only to Allan Border) for Australia, including 21 centuries (the same number of Test hundreds as another Australian great – Neil Harvey), and 99 catches. He was Australia’s fifth highest run scorer in history and fifth most capped Australian player. His tally of 107 Test matches between 1984/85 and 1995/96 made him only the second Australian after Allan Border to play 100 Tests. Now an ICC Elite Official a former Cricket Australian selector, Head of Cricket Department for Tasmanian Cricket and a talking plastic doll icon for VB: David’s dry with and clever repertoire keeps audiences mesmerised and looking back fondly on an era full of characters. His legend also lives on at the ground in his home city of Launceston where the major stand has been named after him.

Pure South Dining is a modern Melbourne eatery that draws inspiration from farmers, fishermen and artisan producers of Tasmania including King Island & Flinders Island. We can trace our world class produce to ethical farmers, fishermen and artisan producers, in Tasmania, King Island and Flinders Island, who all enjoy the luxury of the cleanest seas, the lushest fields and most pristine air measured on the planet. Our ethos is reinforced with regular visits to the apple isle to meet with these farmers and producers, people we know by name and call our friends, and by taking the time to discover their stories where we share a common philosophy.
